Monday, July 19th, 2010: Serious doodling

Lately I’ve been having trouble feeling motivated to try and finish anything so I’ve really just been doodling. Part of that might be from feeling dizzy a lot lately… it’s hard to keep drawing when you’re dizzy. Also, I realized I haven’t really been playing with other techniques and mediums to finish up a doodle, so a quick trip to the art supply store and soon I’ll be really taking advantage of my nice thick moleskin pages, you’ll see! I’m actually really excited about these new supplies, even though I’m still having trouble getting myself to break them out.

Until then, here are some doodles I’ve done mostly during meetings at work, although the first two are something I drew to send in the mail to a friend. The horizontal one is the envelope I actually sent, while the vertical one I decided was just practice (but eventually used it randomly anyhow).

And here are a couple sketches I had intended on finishing up when I realized I didn’t know how and I spent too long sketching them anyway. I might go back and finish them later…

That last one was a ton of fun to draw… I actually really should finish it up. Maybe I’ll start my next post with that. We’ll see. Thanks for checking in on my doodling folks!

Wednesday, March 3, 2010: Zoo trip drawings

I promise, these aren’t the only drawings I’ve done since my last post! These are just the few I did at the zoo and one from a while ago I still hadn’t posted. I went to the Zoo with Lindsey and a few friends from work. I wish I had more time to just sit and draw the animals and some of the neat African plants they had growing there but these are all I got out in the four hours or so that we were there… animals can be distracting.

I’ve been drawing a lot lately and really enjoying it, I just haven’t been keeping track of where those drawings are and all these websites (twitter, facebook, blogs, etc;) get me overwhelmed sometimes so I haven’t been posting them… or even updating my facebook status! Hopefully though, this new box (that’s right, a whole box) of pens I ordered will get into a serious tango with my hands and I’ll post the results for you gentle web folk here before another three month period has passed. Maybe even soon… stay tuned.

Wednesday, November 25, 2009: Drawings in my sketchbook

Unfortunately I didn’t get to go to life drawing in Palo Alto last night, there was a conflicting dinner obligation. Then tonight I’ll be on a twelve hour drive to my parents house in Arizona for a quick two days. I’m planning on still making time to draw as much as I can over those couple days, but there’s a lot of driving involved.

I feel like I still need to draw a lot more from life, but I just feel invasive lately when I think about drawing people in public again. I would just draw people I know but I’m still trying to get over that fear that I’ll draw them wrong and offend them when they eventually ask to see what I drew. But, I’ll get over that… or spend the rest of my life drawing in mirrors.

I sat in front of the mirror while watching SNL. I’m not really a fan of staring at myself in the mirror but I feel like it’s good practice when I can’t think of anything more fun to draw.

This is what it would look like if I had a seamonster that liked to chase mermaids.

I put a millipede in one of the cactus I potted… I’m nervous it’ll mutate, multiply, and spawn a sad little cactus man. This is sort of the result of me being determined to get better at drawing that golden barrel cactus, then getting bored with it and drawing bugs and little guys instead.

I just got home from life drawing and thought I would update this. I think I’ll try updating after life drawing on Tuesdays from now on. Or some other night once a week. This week was still pretty close to the last post so there’s not as much to show, but still a few fun ones. Mostly just crabs…

I’m officially starting a “sketch blog”…

After a lot of suggestions from people who don’t want to check twitter and people who are sketching geniuses, I’m officially turning my meager little site here into one of those sketch blogs you see around. Hopefully it’ll be one of those neat sketch blogs where the reader (you) can see marked improvement in the artist (me) over time but still be genuinely entertained in the mean time.

So, to start off, I’ve got a few sketches, doodles and life drawings from the past month or so. After moving to San Francisco, I’ve made a new commitment to wanting to draw more. So, some of these are still on the shoddy side, but I knew when I started working at it that I was way out of practice. So here we go…

Now I can’t decide if I should post one per day or lump them up once a week or month. We’ll see what happens.

Site still in progress but mostly functional

So, I’m still working out the kinks here and there but I wanted to just put this thing up and take down the placeholder. I’ve got some illustrations up and my big new addition: Sequential art! Where you’ll be able to read any short comics I put up or make or anything. It’ll be a blast. I’ll add the animations and tweak the appearance but here it is. The new erichaddad.net.
